Don Burton started Muncie radio station WLBC from his father's home, and he went on to broadcast sports for four decades. In the early 1930s, he became interested in basketball and WLBC became one of the first stations to broadcast Muncie Central and Ball State games. In the early days, before he had the necessary $500 for a radio line into the gym, Burton would recreate the games from information relayed to him by way of a business phone from a reporter in the gym. Involved in several civic organizations, Burton is also a member of the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame and the Indiana Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.
