Johnny DeCamp became nationally known through his play-by-play accounts of Purdue football and basketball games broadcast by Purdue University radio station WBAA. Purdue students who gained experience at WBAA during DeCamp's time at the station include Chris Schenkel of ABC Sports and Charles Brockman of WXLW. DeCamp, who was also Purdue's sports information director at one time, set up networks to broadcast Purdue games nationally. He also set up local networks to carry educational programs. Among the people he interviewed were J.C. Penney, Tommy Dorsey and Frank Sinatra. DeCamp is also a member of the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame.
