Sid Collins, who worked at WIBC radio in Indianapolis, was internationally known for announcing the Indianapolis 500, but he was also involved in several sports and civic projects and won many professional honors. As the Voice of the 500 for 29 years, he was the anchor for the world's largest radio network of more than 1,200 stations and 100 million listeners. Collins originated the phrase "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing," founded the Pole Position Mechanics Banquet and is in the Hoosier Auto Race Hall of Fame.

Collins, who announced the IHSAA basketball tournament for 27 years, was president of the ISSA. He is also a member of the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame and the Indiana Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.
