Of his 26 years with Mutual Broadcasting (now Westwood One), Tony Roberts has spent 25 of those as the play-by-play voice of Notre Dame sports. But that isn't all Roberts does. He puts together three daily sports shows for Westwood One, and also broadcasts college games in addition to Notre Dame, including NCAA basketball, the College World Series, the ACC basketball tournament and the Olympics.
Roberts has won seven Sportscaster of the Year awards, seven AP sports reporting awards, the Jack Quinlan Broadcaster Award presented by the Notre Dame Club, and the Lindsey Nelson Broadcast Award from the National Football Foundation.
A graduate of Columbia College, Roberts began his broadcast career in 1957 as sports director at KCLN in Clinton, Iowa. His resume also includes spots at WKAI in Macomb, Ill.; WCIS-TV in Springfield, Ill.; WSOY in Decatur, Ill.; WWDC in Gary; WAKE in Valparaiso; and Washington D.C. stations WWDC and WRC.
Roberts has broadcast more Notre Dame games, more Army-Navy games and more college football bowl games than any other announcer.
An army veteran from 1951-53, Roberts played football for Camp Drake in Japan on two Far East championship teams.
