If you travel around the nation during any major sporting event, chances are you’ll find a local newspaper running Mike Lopresti’s columns. He has been the national sports columnist for Gannett News Service since 1982, and his columns have run in more than 100 newspapers, including USA Today. Lopresti has done it all from his hometown of Richmond.

Mike’s career began at the Richmond Palladium-Item in 1976, which he joined shortly after graduating cum laude from Ball State University. Mike is also a graduate of Richmond High School. He worked at the Palladium-Item as a columnist for five years before becoming Gannett’s national sports columnist. Mike has covered 29 NCAA Final Fours, 28 World Series, 27 Super Bowls, 27 Masters and 14 Olympics. Mike has covered events in 37 states and 11 countries. Mike is also a voter for the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Heisman Trophy.

Mike has been honored with the Jim Murray Outstanding Sportswriter Award, the Corky Lamm Indiana Sportswriter of the Year Award, the Gannett William Ringle Career Achievement Award and he has won more than 20 Best of Gannett and Well Done Awards. Mike is a member of the Ball State University Journalism Hall of Fame.

Mike and his wife reside in Richmond. They have three children.
