Pat McKee is inducted into the Indiana Sportswriters & Sportscasters Hall of Fame after working 28 years in the Hoosier state, including 26 1/2 at The Indianapolis Star, where he worked from 1982-2008. With the Star, he spent a good portion of time covering or supervising those who cover high school sports in Indiana. He also covered college sports, some Olympic/amateur sports and professional sports on occasion. Through it all, he reported on many memorable events and personalities.
During his career, Pat has received numerous professional awards. Among them are awards from the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association, the Indiana Football Coaches Association, the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association, the Indiana High School Athletic Association and the National Federation of State High School Associations. He was the 2005 ISSA Corky Lamm Indiana Sportswriter of the Year. Also, in April 2008, Pat was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame as a winner of its St. Vincent Silver Medal.
A native of St. Louis, Pat attended the University of Missouri and graduated with honors. He moved to Indiana in 1980, initially as part of an administrative fellowship program with the Indiana Pacers. He later worked for a small paper called Indiana Sports Weekly for about a year before joining and The Star. In August 2008, Pat began working for The News-Press in Fort Myers, Fla. He and his wife, Lori, now reside in Punta Gorda, Fla.
